Understanding the TruSkirt Insulated Metal Skirting System

Learn Skirting, Install & Shipping

Introduction

The TruSkirt skirting system is an advanced solution that offers superior protection for above grade crawlspaces compared to traditional skirting. Designed to provide both durability and energy efficiency, it acts as a thermal and structural barrier, significantly reducing heat loss while protecting critical components in the crawlspace, such as floor insulation, plumbing, the ground, and the foundation itself.

A key feature of insulated metal skirting is its enhanced insulation properties. By reducing heat loss, it helps maintain a more stable crawlspace temperature, which is crucial for preventing frozen pipes and excessive moisture buildup. This also improves the home’s overall energy efficiency, leading to lower heating costs in the winter.

Additionally, the TruSkirt systems include an improved heave gap design. This adjustable slip joint, hidden beneath the top trim, allows the skirting to slide up against the house as the ground shifts due to frost heave. This design is far more effective than traditional skirting in preventing buckling, warping, or panel separation, which can compromise the skirting’s ability to protect the home.

Lastly, the TruSkirt system features an integrated hidden ventilation design. This allows airflow to travel over the panels within the top trim during warm months, promoting circulation and reducing heat buildup. During freezing temperatures, the system automatically closes due to ground heave, helping to retain warmth and further protect the crawlspace from cold air intrusion.

How it Works

Components of the TruSkirt System

The skirting system consists of two main parts: the trims and the panels. These components work together to give rigidity and flexibility to the installation to last during the seasonal changes we experience.

Bottom Trim

This metal channel is installed on the ground around the home's perimeter with it's back flush to the outside edge of the house.

This trim helps hold the bottom of the insulated metal skirting panels sturdy and flush with the home.

We offer multiple installation configurations for the bottom trim, such as:

Staked directly to the ground

Installed in front of a treated bottom board

Installed on top of a treated bottom board

TruSkirt Panel

These panels come in 9' lengths, and are cut to fit, based on the height of the crawlspace.

If the height is 3', you can get three skirting pieces from one panel for example.

Each panel rests in the bottom trim and is secured to it's neighboring panel with fasteners.

The top of the panels are attached to the house with strapping.

This allows heave movement while also giving it incredibly high wind resistance.

Corner Trims

To give crisp, rigid corners, we offer 90 degree inside and outside corner trims.

For 22.5-45 degree corners we suggest bending the panel.

Top Trim

This trim is one of the most critical elements of the installation.

It is typically one of the last piece to put on, as it then hides and finishes the:

Heave Gap - Free space above the panel to move up and down for soil fluctuations.

Strapping - Metal strapping holding the skirting panel to the house.

Ventilation - Shorter panels with mesh screens provide ventilation and are hidden under the top trim.

Hardware Kits

Every skirting package comes with the hardware needed for the access doors, ventilation, fasteners and strapping.
